How to choose the right chemical protective clothing?

MATISEC offers Category III PPE that protects against chemical hazards, among other things. This highly standardized and regulated sector requires several types of clothing and several standards. This article invites you to rediscover the concept of chemical protection and the different solutions we offer for different types of needs.
What is chemical protection?
Chemical protective clothing is PPE designed to protect the user against hazardous chemicals that can take various forms: gases, liquids, solids.
It may include waterproof clothing, partial body protection such as jackets, pants, aprons, or overshoes, tailored to the risk analysis and type of contamination.
MATISEC chemical protective clothing is certified according to European standards to guarantee its effectiveness against chemical agents encountered in various industrial, military, or emergency environments.
The 6 types of chemical protective clothing on the market

- Type 1
Standards EN 943-1 and EN 943-2 apply to TYPE 1 clothing that is resistant to gaseous chemicals.
MATISEC, ULM II, DM II, GR IV, and GR IV SOL chemical suits comply with EN 943-1 and EN 943-2 standards and can be used by emergency response teams. These watertight suits provide protection for the body and respiratory tract against gaseous, liquid, and solid chemicals.
Via EN 943-2, they have been tested against the 15 chemicals in the standard, ensuring effectiveness and performance against a wide range of chemicals and certain warfare agents.
Focus on our GR IV and GR IV SOL suits with their integrated ergonomic mask, ensuring optimal comfort during long operations while avoiding the double screen of the breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing.
- Type 3 and 4
The EN 14605 standard applies to TYPE 3 and 4 clothing that is resistant to liquid chemicals in the form of pressurized jets (type 3) and aerosols (type 4).
MATISEC offers various type 3 and 4 products depending on the application, ranging from mass chemical protection or emergency evacuation equipment mainly for military use, decontamination suits, our ALKY suit for industrial or alkylation use, and our ventilated chemical suits.

- Type 5
The EN 13982-1 standard applies to TYPE 5 chemical protective clothing that is resistant to airborne solid particles.
Discover COMAT, our most versatile chemical suit for types 3, 4, 5, and 6. Thanks to its uniform chemical resistance across all parts of the suit, COMAT ensures maximum safety for the wearer.
- Type 6
The EN 13034 standard applies to TYPE 6 chemical protective clothing offering limited protection against liquid chemicals such as accidental splashes.
The EN 13034 standard governs the lowest level of chemical protection, such as sprays or light splashes. Performance is assessed via a penetration and repellency test on four defined chemicals.

COMAT, DECOMAT, and MR CHIM are also tested to types 3 and 4, and 5 for COMAT. Our CSP suit is type 6 with additional antistatic properties.
The special NRBC label

FINABEL 0.7.C is specific to chemical warfare agents. All MATISEC military/CBRN suits are tested according to this label: SG2P, TSA, DECOMAT, and SAUVEGARDE.
