The regulatory framework for the product

Like all MATISEC products and solutions, the GPAL Léger IS meets strict safety standards (
) that guarantee the effectiveness of the breathing apparatus. It complies with the EN 137:2006 standard (
) that applies to self-contained breathing apparatus.

The GPAL Léger IS is a type 1 device (industrial use) and also complies with the essential health and safety requirements set out in Directive 89/686/EC and Regulation (EU) 2016/425. These documents set out the conditions that must be met in order to market personal protective equipment.

The GPAL Léger IS is worn with a TOTAL III mask that complies with EN 136 class 3.
The breathing air cylinders supplied by MATISEC comply with the regulations in force: Directive 2014/68 – DESP.

Technical specifications of the product

The GPAL Léger IS breathing apparatus consists of:

• A click or FR regulator (automatic or first breath)

  pressure gauge protector The lightweight GPAL IS protects the wearer working in an unbreathable atmosphere. It is used
  in the following cases:
• Presence of toxic gases
• Presence of fire smoke
• Presence of toxic dust and aerosols
• In an atmosphere with low oxygen levels (less than 17%)

The shape of the backplate and harness allows the weight of the SCBA to be transferred to the hips of the wearer
. To improve comfort and protect the hoses, the shoulder straps are padded
. The belt of the GAPL Léger is also equipped with textile reinforcement.

The GPAL Léger IS device can be equipped with an option to connect a second wearer. With this option, during travel or reconnaissance operations, the wearer can then
rescue another person by connecting them to the breathing air cylinder using an
emergency hood or a second regulator.

The GPAL Léger IS must be connected to a breathing air cylinder in order to operate. The tightness is adjusted by adjusting the strap. To prevent the cylinder from becoming loose unexpectedly, the wearer must open the strap.
The minimal size of the cylinder ensures that the device is lightweight, making it easier for users to move around.

The two types of regulators available with the GPAL Léger IS are designed to meet the needs of the
responders. One is the automatic Click regulator or 1st inspiration. The other is the
automatic or first-breath FR regulator, which is newer, smaller, and offers a higher air flow rate
. The choice of regulator depends on the customer's preference and usage habits
, but both meet the same need.

In terms of the chassis of this device, the ARI GEVAC model is built on the same basis. It
is used, for example, during operations in nuclear power plants. It is a device
for evacuation.

Its context of use

The GPAL Léger IS can be used in all professions/industries where there is a need
for short-term respiratory protection. This could be in the nuclear industry,
carbon factories, or even in the oil industry. It is used for reconnaissance, travel, or verification missions
.

For example, oilfield workers can use it to
move from their workstation to an uncontaminated area. Thanks to its light weight and ease of use, the device can be moved
quickly and efficiently.
In extreme conditions, the GPAL Léger IS wearer can also equip
with several accessories to enhance protection:

• Gloves
• Safety boots or shoes
• Headset
• Protective clothing (thermal, chemical, fire...)

The GPAL Léger IS is a complementary device to our range of breathing apparatus.
It does not have the same utility as the GPAL INCURVE or GPAL QS. It can be adapted to the requirements of
customers who need a light, short-term device.
