GPAL Léger IS: ergonomic and perfectly suited to short trips in an unbreathable atmosphere

Recently certified, our GPAL Light IS SCBA protects the respiratory tract and
face of a wearer operating in an asphyxiating atmosphere. Designed to enhance the wearer's
comfort, it is equipped with a number of options that can be adapted to suit the type of operation
. In this article, find out more about the technical features and
context of use of the GPAL Light IS breathing apparatus.

Product standards
Like all MATISEC products and solutions, the GPAL Léger IS complies with strict
safety standards, guaranteeing the effectiveness of the breathing apparatus. It complies with the
EN 137 : 2006 standard for self-contained breathing apparatus.
The GPAL Léger IS is a type 1 device (industrial use), it also meets the
essential health and safety requirements defined by Directive 89/686/EC and
Regulation (European Union) 2016/425. These documents frame the conditions that
must be met to market personal protective equipment.
The GPAL Léger IS is worn with a TOTAL III mask complying with standard EN 136 class 3.
The breathing air cylinders supplied by MATISEC comply with current
regulations: Directive 2014/68 - DESP.
Product specifications
The GPAL Light IS breathing apparatus consists of :
- TOTAL III mask
- A click or FR regulator (automatic or 1st inspiration)
- HP inlet gasket
- Pressure gauge
- Pressure gauge protector
The GPAL Light IS protects the wearer in an unbreathable atmosphere, and is used
in cases of : - Presence of toxic gases
- Presence of fire fumes
- Presence of toxic dusts and aerosols
- In a low-oxygen atmosphere (less than 17%)
The shape of the bib and harness allows the weight of the SCBA to be transferred to the wearer's hips
. For added comfort and hose protection, the shoulder straps are
padded. The GAPL Light belt is also fitted with a textile reinforcement.
The GPAL Léger IS can be fitted with a second wearer option. With
this option, when on the move or on reconnaissance operations, the wearer can then
rescue another person by connecting them to the breathing air cylinder using a
emergency hood or a second regulator.
The GPAL Léger IS requires connection to a breathing air cylinder to operate. Tightening is achieved by adjusting the strap. To avoid unexpected
loosening of the cylinder, the wearer is responsible for opening the strap.
The cylinder's minimal dimensions ensure that the device is lightweight, making it easy for users to move around
.
The two types of regulator available with the GPAL Léger IS are tailored to the needs of
operators. One is the Click automatic or 1st inspiration regulator. The other is the
FR automatic or 1st inspiration regulator, which is more recent, smaller and offers a greater air flow
. The choice of regulator depends on the customer's preference and habit
of use, but both meet the same need.
The GEVAC SCBA is built on the same chassis. It
is used, for example, in nuclear power plant operations, as an evacuation
device.
Context of use
GPAL Léger IS can be used in all trades/industries where there is a need
for short-term respiratory protection. This could be in the nuclear industry,
carbon factories or in the oil industry. It can be used for
reconnaissance, travel or verification missions.
For example, oilfield workers can use it to
move from their workstation to an uncontaminated area. Thanks to its light weight and ease of use, the device can be moved
quickly and efficiently.
In extreme conditions, the GPAL Léger IS wearer can also equip
with several accessories to enhance protection:
- Gloves
- Safety boots or shoes
- Headset
- Protective clothing (thermal, chemical, fire...)
The GPAL Léger IS is a complementary device to our range of breathing apparatus.
It does not have the same utility as the GPAL INCURVE or GPAL QS. It can be adapted to the requirements of
customers who need a light, short-term device.
